After Zephyr was taken into custody, a family volunteered to care for and raise her. Initially, officials declined the offer, wanting to research and understand Zephyr better. However, after the fourth instance of Zephyr escaping squeezing through the bars of her holding cell (she was very small), officials agreed the resources required were too great and agreed to give the family custody of Zephyr.
